Worse. They will definitely get worse. They are up the tree, rocks are being thrown, season ten will set the tree on fire before they’re allowed down.
Let me offer a comparison to a really popular three act structure you are all familiar with: The Hunger Games.
First half of Catching Fire (Season 9) seemed pretty slow. You had the victory tour and all that bullshit that set up just how big the power players were in this game, gave some room for more character development, made things go wrong, ominously rumbled war, made people choose sides, put a rift between the heroes who would most need to work together, emotionally isolated our protagonist, and got her wrapped up in a high stakes deal with someone who had her over a barrel. Then BAM, victors are reaped, there’s no getting out of it, their allies seem shitty, no one can be trusted, and as the protagonist is flung into battle, they brutally kill one of her most important secondary character allies.
Yes, they will resolve something at the end of the season. There will be an instant of breath. Like killing Lilith an ruby at the end of season 4, like escaping the quarter quell.
But then they’ll learn district 12 is gone, Lilith was the last seal, they’ve lost Peeta and freed Lucifer.
